How to Track Expenses Without Stress

How to Track Expenses Without Stress

If you've ever tried noting down every single ₹10 chai you buy, you know how quickly expense tracking leads to burnout. The good news? You don't have to be perfect to be effective.

The Problem with Manual Tracking

Pulling out an Excel sheet every evening to log exact decimal amounts is tedious. People usually give up by day 14.

Strategies for Stress-Free Tracking

1. The "Two Account" System

Keep one bank account for fixed bills (Rent, EMIs, Utility Bills) and immediately transfer exactly what you need into it on payday. Use a second account exclusively for variable daily spending (food, fuel, entertainment). Simply checking the balance of your second account tells you how much "fun money" you have left.

2. Use Expense Tracking Apps

Plenty of secure, read-only apps can sync with your SMS inbox to categorize expenses automatically. They group your Zomato and Swiggy texts into "Food" seamlessly.

3. Review Weekly, Not Daily

Set aside 15 minutes every Sunday. Look at your credit card and UPI history for the week. Are you on target? Overspending? Course correct for the next week and move on.

Expense tracking should act like a GPS, guiding you toward your goals, not a strict teacher grading your every move.
