Why the Minimum Due Is a Trap

  • Paying the minimum avoids a late fee, but interest is charged on the whole unpaid balance, usually from the date of each purchase.
  • Once you carry a balance, new purchases typically lose the interest-free period too.
  • GST is charged on the interest, which adds about another fifth to the interest cost.
  • Because the minimum shrinks as the balance shrinks, repayment drags on for years.

If you are stuck, a lower-rate personal loan to clear the card can cost far less. Compare options in Personal Loan vs Credit Card Loan.
